Girl Mom Series: Ashley, Life on the Parsons Farm

Hi there Our Pretty Little Girls readers.
I am so happy to be sharing this post with y'all!!!

My name is Ashley and I blog over at Life on the Parsons Farm and talk about...you guessed it LIFE!!  I mostly write about the happenings with my beautiful daughter, Ellie, and then throw in some recipes and fun decor or DIY's every now again.  I also get real with sharing our struggles with Infertility, it's a roller coaster for sure.

I have always wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember.  When I envisioned myself with children I always saw a daughter.  I dreamed of dressing her up, wearing Mommy and me outfits, doing her hair, and hopefully she would also be into horses and cheer-leading like myself.  I never imagined that it would be difficult or a challenge to have children, but then I had no idea that Infertility even existed.  Soon my dreams of having a daughter changed to just being able to sustain a viable pregnancy - no matter the sex of the child.

When we made the decision to adopt we had the opportunity to have a sex preference but ultimately decided to leave it up to God.  He chose for us to begin our family with a daughter and secretly I couldn't be more happy about it.  While Ellie is not from my loins she is from my heart and my love for her is overwhelming at times.  I know I would love her just as much if she were a boy, but as many of you know there is just something special about being a Girl Mom.

Ellie has a crazy collection of bows and headbands, adorable clothes (many of which I wish were available in my size) and the sweetest mothering spirit.  But she is spunky, tough and the biggest dare devil (which might come in handy when she starts cheer-leading) I have met.  It's so funny how we envision our lives when we are younger and then how they actually pan out...Ellie is so much more than I ever dreamed of and the blessing she is to our lives is indescribable.

When I think about raising a daughter in today's world there are so many more hoops to jump through than when I was little, as was the same for my mom.  Our society is constantly changing and while I am all for moving forward there are some things I cherish and hope to instill in Ellie.  I cannot see the future but these are my hopes for my daughter:

- I hope that you are confident in yourself that you will not be easily swayed by peer pressure to do something(s) that you know is wrong or that is not in your interest.

- I hope that you treasure your body and take care of it always.

- I hope that you will always act like a lady and have the foresight to know not to participate in some of the fads that are popular in your day.

- I hope that you will be strong, tough, determined and yet that you will know and show forgiveness but also know where to draw the line.

- I hope that you are a leader, show grace and kindness to those you meet.  That you are personable, polite, thoughtful, and brave.  I hope that you persevere through difficult times and learn the value of self worth.

- I hope that you don't grow up too soon and still play with dolls and use your imagination, while still being aware of the world.

- I hope that you enjoy tea parties, socializing, entertaining, having fun, and laughing.

- I hope that you have your own autonomy and that you are accountable for your actions and decisions.  I hope that you are honest and real.

- and my biggest hope is that you know how loved you are and that this is the path that God has chosen for you.

It's not always easy raising a daughter (or son for that matter) but to know what the end result is really helps as a guide for what we do as parents and how we raise our kids.  I want Ellie to hold fast to some of the morals that have lived though generations and yet I want her to show tolerance and acceptance.  These things can only be achieved through my teachings and I have my work cut out for me because we know this world is changing.

Thank you so much Beth for having me today and allowing us girl moms to share our hearts.
