Valentines For Our Girls

Valentines day

I have to be 100% real with y'all we aren't really big Valentines Day people. Of all the holidays it is definitely at the bottom of my favorite list. Typical traditional Valentines things just don't work for me and I don't buy into "Hallmark" holidays. Maybe I'm complicated or overly frugal, probably a combination of both. Whatever it is I would be completely fine with just skipping Valentines Day.

But we don't.
Why?

 Our girls.

Sure I may not be much for the mushy valentines romance but who's to say they aren't or won't be? I want my girls to grow up in a home where love is shown in a way that speaks to the heart of others.

After all isn't that what Valentines day should really be about?

So we celebrate love, we celebrate loving others and we remember the one who loves us most.

We decorate

Love the wreath? Katie from Sweet Little Ones also made one a few years back and has a great tutorial on how to put one together!

We craft and work on art projects.

Here are a few I have my eyes on.

We spend time together and show love for others.

Every day I have been adding a heart to the girls doors and writing something I love about them on it. Here is a sneak peek at Emily's

I also have planned a couple individual date nights with the girls. It is so fun taking them out alone and spending one on one time with them.

And of course sending Valentines to spread the love to others.

Intentional time, acknowledging love and making things together...
maybe Valentines Day isn't so bad after all.

  1. I love your wreath and that heart paper chain! We really aren't into Valentine's Day too much, but I think I'll do a few crafty things with Reese. And maybe wear pink that day :)

    1. Thank you so much! The hearts have been fun and the oldest has LOVED reading them each day. I think I may do a recap post on that after Valentines Day is over :).

  4. Hi Beth! I feel the same about Valentine's..I even wrote a post sharing my feeling about it when I started blogging (about a year ago). I think this is a great way to show love to the people who are close to you. But it became so commercialized and cookie-cutter, especially in schools with obligatory "valentine".

P.S. Glad to join your group on FB and look forward to getting to know you more!

    1. Oh so your a "newer" blogger to. I started in March of 2014 so you have a few months on me.

I couldn't agree more. I'll have to go back and find that post.

I am so excited to. I love making new friends :).

  5. Love the wreath! I will have to pin that for next year! What a great way to remind the girls of what you love about them. I will be starting that with Cash tomorrow. Never too late, right?

Thanks for the shout out! XO

  10. Oh my gosh, I love love love this! I am not huge on Valentine's Day either (totally think it's a Hallmark holiday AND I hate going out to dinner on the night since everything is over priced and so crowded). We do usually do something, but I've tried to make it something fun other than just dinner and presents. I don't want you to buy me something because it's a holiday, I want you to buy me something because you want to. But now that we have Mason, I want to make things special and festive! I bought sprinkles to make fun, pretty, festive pancakes on Valentine's morning. I don't think Mason will even notice but I love making it special for him anyway. That and it's FINALLY on a weekend when we can celebrate together!

  11. Valentine's Day is by far my least favorite 'holiday'. Like you, I don't really buy into all the fuss. Not to mention, if Scott wants to spend $100 on a dozen roses I'd much rather he just fork over the cash and I'll go buy something useful (that doesn't die), like running shoes. :)
However, these ideas are all so much fun, and I'm going to have to implement some of them this week. The cookies are a pretty fun idea, and I know of one little boy who loves to help bake!
