Girl Mom Series: MacKensey, Macaroni And Mascara

I’m MacKensey, a working wife and mom to two spunky girls who spends my days keeping it real and trying to make everybody happy, including myself. I have good days and bad, successes and failures, but I always have my family. I love wine, Netflix, running and Target. I'm the voice behind Macaroni and Mascara, a blog about finding balance between being a good wife, a good mom and a good woman.

I'm not at all surprised that I was chosen to be a girl mama. I am the only child of a single mom so I was never around the males that much as a child.

While I always pictured myself having a boy and a girl, I don't really know if I would know what to do with a boy to be honest. And yes, I did cry when I found out that my second child was a girl (because I was so convinced she was a boy) but I wouldn't change her for the world.

I have big plans for these girls. I hope they become strong and independent and outspoken (they're both well on their way to being all of these things). There are also a lot of experiences I want to share with them as a mom.

I've started putting my bucket lists (yes I have more than one) down on paper in an effort to start making plans to do the things on the list. I started with my own personal bucket list and then sat down with my husband and created our couples bucket list.

Here's the start (since this is a ever changing document) of my mother-daughter bucket list:
  • Get manis and pedis at a fancy salon
  • Shop for prom dresses
  • Get matching mother-daughter tattoos (when they're older obviously)
  • Dance in the rain
  • Take a road trip to a place we've never been
  • Teach them how to put on makeup
  • Secretly buy them the dress/jeans/shoes that dad doesn't want them to have
  • Run a race together
  • Make a quilt
  • Attend the Nutcracker Ballet
  • Eat pastries at a fancy cafe in Paris
  • Make Great-Grandma Pulliam's cinnamon rolls
  • Take them to their first concert
  • Ride horses on the beach
  • Play hookie from work and school to go shopping
  • Read a book series together (let them choose)
  • Shop for their wedding dresses
  • Get all dressed up and go to a fancy tea party
  • Watch 'Steele Magnolia'
  • Make Great-Grandma Savage's chocolate cake
  • Take a trip outside of the United States
  • Create a family cookbook of all our favorite family recipes

What other items should be on our mother/daughter bucket list?

Thank you so much for sharing your mother/daughter bucket list with us today MacKensey. I love working on seasonal bucket lists with my girl, but this may be even better. You have definitely inspired me to make a list of our own.

Make sure you stop by Macaroni & Mascara and say hello.

  4. My mom and I played hooky all the time for special Momala and Ashley days. She started it in elementary school and we continued all through my senior year!! Such fun memories.

  6. Great list! I love the riding horses on a beach. Might need to try that one with my girls! Just when they are all a little older. I am not sure I am ever going to be ready to try on wedding dresses with them. That will be hard to say goodbye to one era and onto a new one :)

  11. It is brilliant isn't it?! I saw something on Pinterest about making a cook book and adding photos of you making the recipes with your kids then giving it to them when they are older.... LOVE!
