Welcome to Tuesday Talk!
So glad you're joining us for another week.
This week I want to talk about something that I have been working on for a while, a long while.
If I had to put a number on it I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of about 2 years.
My Living Room Gallery Wall
I know, I know 2 years is a long time to have a project in limbo. But it is a gallery wall! Until the wall is completely filled is it ever really finished?! I say that it is not.
I guess that would technically mean mine isn't done, but it is close enough to share. I am so happy with things just the way they are right now. I don't see myself browsing the aisles of Hobby Lobby or searching Pinterest for ideas for a while.
It started out by adding shelves to an empty wall. We chose to make Ana Whites Gallery shelves and revised the plans a bit to make them our own.
(Please pardon my horribly lit cell phone picture)
This was one of the first projects we worked on when we finally started doing a bit of decorating. The hubby was happy and thought the wall was done.... I had other plans in mind. I mean a wall that big just needed more, right?
Slowly over time It transformed to this.
Much better, right?
Let's take a look at a few of the things we have hanging on the wall.
Antique letter N. You can't find them like this at Hobby Lobby folks. It does a have a bit of damage but we don't mind one bit. I often wonder what sign this was once hanging on.
This was a rainy afternoon art project with a couple sheets of scrapbook paper.
Don't say you haven't been warned.
This sign rotates seasonally. So far I have made one for fall and one for Christmas. I am currently wanting to do something that works for in between the seasons. Something I could leave up all year round if I wanted. I am just not feeling very creative. But I know something will come to me soon and when it does, I am ready!
This was the last piece I added to the wall, I saw it at Hobby Lobby and knew it was perfect.
Okay I know some girls are saying, "WHAT?" followed by "Why?" The truth of the matter is it just works for us. I love cars, he loves cars, why not?!
I adore this picture of Russ' grandmother. Apparently she didn't mind cars either.
P.S. see those dimples..... Marissa definitely picked up that gene.
Family photos that I can easily rotate
It may have taken me about 2 years to get it to this point but I couldn't be happier with the choices we made.
I think a gallery wall is about more than just hanging things on the wall to fill up space. It is finding things that you love, that represent your family and then blending them together to make something beautiful.
Now it's your turn to grab the button and link up!
An InLinkz Link-up
Do you have a gallery wall in your home?
Is it a work in progress or how long did it take you to complete?
This is cute! I am in the process of starting one in our bedroom! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I love the wall! I really would like to do something similar.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job. I love all the different looks. The cars, a keeper! I understand about how long it takes to pull it together. I once took 5 years to decide on a color to paint my kitchen...and finally I visited a friend and she had the color I was visioning in her kitchen and a "star was born." Thanks for hosting this party.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this wall. So many personal items to give it your own family's touch. I can't wait for our new house, so I can start from scratch...again. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I love the non-traditional items you added, like the oil cans and the letter N.
ReplyDeleteOH my gosh, so cute! I've always wanted to do one of these, but find the task so darn daunting! I don't even know where to start. What you did was perfect.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how your gallery represents you and your family! Exactly what it should do, in my opinion. Love how unique all the hangings are as well!
ReplyDeleteThe wall looks great! I think it definitely needed more than just the shelves- what you did looks wonderful! The state art is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love how it has turned out! We have so many blank walls in the new house and I'm trying to not rush in to filling them, but your gallery wall gives me some inspiration! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove your gallery wall! Great idea to use the ledges rather than hanging the pictures individually - I love that you can move them around easily. I think I may need to do that myself!
ReplyDeleteI have so much trouble with visualizing pictures, shelves and such on walls...you clearly have no trouble! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I love it so much. My gallery walls can use a little help!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with your philosophy on gallery walls! They are made for changing up and rotating out and switching up + including things that you love! Yours is on point.
ReplyDeleteAaahhh thanks friend. It was fun getting a peak at yours yesterday in your post! It is looking good too. You have a HUGE wall that yours is on, right?!
ReplyDeleteNow that I feel this wall is "wrapped up" I am ready to move to finally finishing the dining room decor. My temporary art can say good bye soon! The funny thing is I waited so long I hate the paint color in there now. I guess that is what 3 years gets you. I see a greige in my future... but we will see. Between that and making a school room in the "play room" we have our own, MUCH simpler, home remodel going on over the summer. I think I may kiss that yellow goodbye to.
Thanks Ashley. They truly are just a work in progress, you will get there soon!
ReplyDeleteAh thanks. I just go for it with little pre-planning and hope for the best. I am really lucky it worked out so well this time. Nothing like putting unnecessary holes in the wall!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! YES!!! I completely agree. They give you a great place to display just about anything, are cheap and easy to make and give a great start to a gallery wall. You won't be sorry at all if you go that route.
ReplyDeleteAaahhh yes. We still have blank walls 3 years later and some "temporary art" that I am SO ready to say goodbye too. You will get there eventually friend. Definitely don't rush and don't be afraid to do something temporary either.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! It is much better this way and he whole-heartedly agrees now. It just takes luck, patience and time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda. It really, really does show exactly who we are. That is probably why I love it so much. I see it staying up for years and years to come.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I really recommend starting with some kind of gallery shelves and then just work your way around them. It really made the process a lot less intimidating. You can do it girl!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie. Those are some of my favorites too!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting Kelly! Can't wait to see how it turns out. Even if it takes two years ;).
ReplyDeleteThanks Danielle! You could totally put a great wall together. Just don't rush/ be patient with the process and you will be good to go!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Amy. That means a lot. I get glimpses of the walls in your house and sigh a dream sigh over how much I like them :). I can only imagine what you will do in a new space, that will be really exciting to see!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Haha that is awesome sometimes you need just the right inspiration. Speaking of I am getting ready to go look at paint colors myself. My dining room is next on the list of rooms to finish up. Hopefully it won't take me 5 years!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great party with amazing co hosts, so lucky to be a part of it.
It just might lol
ReplyDeleteWhen we move in our house 5 years ago we spent so much time fixing all the holes I didn't want to put any back in. But now we have almost bare walls every where. Definitely time to spruce stuff up a bit.
ReplyDeleteBigger IS better...and I mean you still have some room to grow upwards. And, I agree! It shouldn't just be some things to have stuff on the wall...it should be things you love, think are beautiful, or represent the fam! I think it looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! And don't even worry it's taken you so long. Like I mentioned the other day. we've lived here for almost 2 years and I still have 1 box to unpack and it just so happens to be pictures that I want to hang on the wall and make a gallery wall. I'm working on it though and hope to have it done soon...ish. I love the additions you made besides just pictures. It makes a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I absolutely love how unique it is to your family!
ReplyDeleteAww! You are too kind! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the wall!! We have a massive wall along our stairs that is bare, and we've been talking for ages about making it a gallery wall. This may just be the push I need to actually get going on that!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it?! I have thought about that too Courtney. I think I am going to save that space so if I find something that I "have" to have I have the room for it. But, I'm not going to go out searching for something to fill it.
ReplyDeleteThanks dear!
Lol! Oh girl I know. We have been here three and there are still projects that need done. Is a home ever really finished though?! Thanks a bunch. I can't wait to see yours when you get it done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Keri!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's ridiculous at all. I think it just depends on the way your brain works. If I wouldn't of had the shelves to go off of I think I would have been the same exact way. Wahoo, Hobby Lobby!!! All of your problems will soon be solved dear. Plus you'll be able to buy Christmas decor in June ;). Good luck. I am sure it will turn out great!
ReplyDeleteOh girl that wall is screaming for a gallery display on it. You guys should totally go for it. It would look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I especially love those cans. So cool! The whole gallery wall concept is so intimidating to me, but I love how they look. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYour gallery wall looks amazing!! What a fun collection of things you have. The vintage letter and vintage pictures are my favorite. I love that you incorporated family items, favorites and season things to rotate out. I'm taking notes!!
ReplyDeleteThey are intimidating, aren't they?! I think its the pressure to do it all at once, or living with something half done and worrying about ever finishing!
ReplyDeleteYour to sweet, thank you!
Thank you so much! I cant wait to see how yours turns out, even if it takes 2 years ;).
ReplyDeleteSometimes great things just take time, right?! Hehe! Thank you. The other stuff is the stuff that is SO hard to pick. Photos are easy to love the other stuff, not so much. Finding something that is "special" enough is just hard. Can't wait to see yours when you get it finished!
