Girl Mom Series: Danielle, Sundaes & Spaghetti

Hi everyone!  I'm Danielle, a 30 something first grade teacher turned stay at home mom.  I have a wonderful two year old daughter, Annabelle, a pretty fantastic husband, Matt, and two cuddly cats, Snickers and Lilly.  We also have a second girl on the way!  I blog over at Sundaes and Spaghetti about my life as a mom, cooking, crafts and everything in between.  I am so excited to be part of Beth's Girl Mom Series.

Growing up I always knew I wanted to be a mom, so when I got pregnant I (along with my husband) we're very excited.  I really thought I was having a boy, so when I found out we were having a girl I was a bit shocked, but very happy.

Annabelle didn't come into the world exactly as planned (after 30ish hours of labor, I ended up with an unplanned c-section).  Bringing her home was a huge change, but we settled into our routine quite well.

Watching Annabelle grow has been so amazing.

I simply can not believe how much she learns and changes everyday!

It's also super fun to dress her in skirts, dresses and bows (when she allows it), and sewing new outfits for her is a blast!  Not that you can't sew cute things for boys, but there just seem to be more options for girls.

Now our family of three will be changing to a family of four as we add another girl to the mix!  Once again I thought I was having a boy, so I was a bit surprised when the ultra sound tech said girl.  Although I was kind of hoping for a boy, I was also happy to hear the world girl.  I mean, I know girls!  Now with one girl, and another on the way, I thought to myself what do I want my girls to know?

1.  "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." ~ Dr. Seuss

I want my girls to know it is ok to be them.  I don't care if they want to dress up in dresses and play with dolls, or wear pants and play in the mud.  I want them to be happy, and confident.  Like Dr. Seuss said, people who matter won't care.

2.  "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."~ Thumper

I want my girls to understand it is important to be kind.  Being mean to another person on purpose is not alright.  While I don't expect my girls to be friends with everyone, I don't want them to turn into "mean girls".  As a teacher I have seen how young cliques and meanness can start.  I hope I can teach my girls how to respect others, even if they may not particularly like them.

3. "Do unto others as you would have done unto you."~ The Bible

This kind of goes along with number two. You never know what others are going through, so treat others the way you want to be treated.

4. "Be so happy that when others look at you they become happy too." ~Yogi Bhajan

I want my girls to know if they are happy and joyful, they can spread that to others. I hope I can teach my girls how their attitude can affect others.
*Not saying I don't want them ever to be sad, just that the power their emotions can have on others.

I'm sure the more my girls grow, the more I will add to the list.

A big thank you to Beth for having me as part of your series, and thank you to everyone who stopped by to read.

  2. Very good list. Love that first one too, so true and sometimes so hard to follow ourselves. Thanks!

  3. Thanks so much Sarah! That Dr. Seuss quote is one of my favorites, and like you said it's often hard to follow ourselves.

  4. I have three daughters - all grown up. Everyone of your quotes and takes on them rang true in our home also. There is nothing more rewarding in raising little girls to be young women and see the fruits of your labor. Here's to wishing you many "girl years" ahead. They are a joy to raise.

  5. It is amazing how much my daughter has grown already! Although I'm a bit nervous for when we hit the teenage years with two girls! Thanks for stopping by to comment. :)

  6. What a cutie! I love the name, we almost named our third daughter Annabelle, but the kids voted on Anneliese. I still love that name though! You are a wise parent with some very wise advice for your daughter. Thanks for sharing a peek into your life!

  8. To be a girl Mom... I know I would totally kill it because being a Mom rocks but I don't know if I could handle all the girly parts because I'm not that girly myself. However, if she was as cute as this little one, I'm sure I can mange!

  9. I love reading all of these girl mom posts! I know nothing about girls. I have Mason (of course) but I also have 4 nephews. No girls over in these parts. ;)

  10. You sound just like me, but the other side of the coin. All of our cousins are girls so I have little hands on experience with baby boys (except for my good friends sons). Boys are SO different than girls. I love hearing about boy mom adventures though. Maybe because it is so different.

  11. I always felt the same way but it is funny how instinctive it is for them. Marissa used to adorn herself with tons of jewels and the only thing I ever wear is a Garmin and the VERY occasional necklace. It wasn’t like she was imitating a modeled behavior. So crazy.
    Thanks for reading!
