The Fourth of July on Saturday made for a three day weekend full of festivities, family and fun.
Friday was blueberry muffins, errands and loads of family time with Russ' sister and her kiddos. They only live an hour away but since both of us keep busy schedules we don't often see each other. It is always so good when we do and the cousins have a good time playing together too.
We ate way to much food including "Lemon" Squash pie. I never imagined having squash pie but it was fantastic. Russ' sister is also a great person for me to talk to about home school, gardens, canning and yogurt making. Aah the domestic life :).
Saturday morning I was up and out the door while my family stayed home and slept. A few weeks back I had won an entry to the Freedom 321 Run race and there was no way I was passing up a free race. It was a bit weird since I was there alone but whatever I did must have worked. I managed to run 3 miles in 25:51 and that was good enough to earn me 1st place in the 30-39 age division.
The rest of the day was spent napping, eating, shopping and playing.
Later we had our traditional ice cream for dessert
Lit off a few fireworks.
I actually remembered to have Russ snap a picture of me with the girls.
Then we headed to a friends house for more fireworks and a lawn movie.
The past few years the Fourth of July has definitely made it's way up my list of favorite holidays. It just feels like the peak of all things summer.
I love summer.
We were so blessed to have such a great weekend together this year with lots of family time.
How was your Fourth?

What a fun time! That pie looks delicious! I would imagine it's like having a sweet potato pie, which in theory sounds kind of icky, but is surprising scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteYour weekend was the best!!!
ReplyDeleteRacing and placing 1st?! All the high fives! Ice cream, fireworks, a lawn movie?! You totally win best weekend award, for sure.
I am still trying to figure that out. All I can say is you gotta love small races. I am still about a minute off pace to setting a new PR. BUT it was also warm with 93% humidity. EEeeekkk. So I think if I can keep this up that new PR is mine come fall. I really want it so bad.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty flipping fantastic. Many I love summer.
It was SO good. She made me try it before telling me what it was, lololol. I have yet to make a sweet potato pie but I guarantee I would love it. Maybe this fall I will give one a try.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! Love the lawn movie. And, squash pie definitely sounds odd...but I guess pumpkin pie is pretty good so sure why not squash!
ReplyDeleteHow to make yogurt?! Do share! Looks like a wonderful weekend! I want to watch a movie outside too! Glad you had a wonderful 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteGreat family picture plus the one of just you & the girls is adorable! Way to go, Mama on placing first in your age group!
ReplyDelete4th of July is my second favorite holiday only to Christmas. Such a fun time. We have gotten a box at our local baseball team's stadium before, and it was awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou guys look like you had a great weekend! Your girls are SO cute together, you seriously give me baby fever... even though they aren't babies! I'm so sure that I'm one and done and then I see the way they are together and they love they have for each other and I think I want that for Mason too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 1st place win!!
Girl if anyone seems willing to make and try squash pie I think it would be you :). It was a lemon flavored custard like consistence that was so good. I mean technically pumpkin is a squash, right?
ReplyDeleteI will try and find the pin I use and get it to you. We save a lot of money by making our own :). Movie outside... just move closer already and we can hit up a drive inn or something ;).
ReplyDeleteYou too friend!
Thanks Amy. I am pleased and shocked that I actually remembered. I usually forget those photos.
ReplyDeleteI think it comes in 3rd for me. Christmas, Easter then the 4th.... it may eventually steal 2nd place though.
ReplyDeleteThe box was so awesome. I will never be able to sit in the stands again, lol.
Yes it does. I absolutely love it... to bad next years a leap year right? Fourth on a Monday won't be too bad though. Still 3 long days with the family. The box was the coolest. I never want to sit in the stands again, lol. Thank you!!! I am pretty stinking tan, very native looking. Thanks dad for that olive complexion. It was something weird like the Count of Monte Cristo, lolol. Last year we watched Independence Day.
ReplyDeleteHehe he! I totally get it. They are both so sweet but Emily really does that to people. My friends husband keeps saying he wants a curly haired blonde baby girl so bad. She said if we were done with Emily they'd take her lol. I love the love they have too... but it can get intense at times to. Best friends and worst enemies, oh sibling love.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Girl, we are working on the whole moving thing as I type :) I would love to go to a drive-in, no joke I've never been!
ReplyDeleteWell that just has to be fixed.
ReplyDeleteThat is super exciting to hear lady 😊.
Squash pie? Whatever is in it?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure of the exact recipe she used, but this one is very similar. It really is so good especially if you like lemon. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/grandma-williams-squash-pie-recipe.html
