Festivus, Cookies & A Tacky Sweater

Happy Festivus!!!

Raise the Festivus pole, air your grievances and participate in a feat of strength today. It's time to celebrate.

Festivus for the rest of us!

Last week Courtney, Jamie and Elizabeth announced a Christmas desserts and tacky sweaters link-up.

Sweet Turtle Soup

Sadly I don't own a tacky sweater. But strictly for your viewing pleasure I whipped this up.

Is it strange that I don't think it is THAT ugly?

...Now onto the cookies.

I decided to share my mom's sugar cookie recipe. I have tried countless others but I just keep coming back to this one as my favorite.

Sugar Cookies

1/4 C Shortening
1/2 C Unsalted butter
1 C Sugar
2 Eggs
1t Extract (any flavor)
2 1/2 C Flour
1 t Baking powder
1 t salt

1. Cream together shortening, butter and sugar until fluffy.

2. Add eggs and extract and mix until combined.

3. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt until well mixed.

4. Put dough in a container, cover and refrigerate until well chilled.

5. Roll out to desired thickness, I usually make mine around 1/4" maybe a little more.

6. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. The bottoms should be very lightly browned but NOT the edges.

7. Cool, ice and decorate!

Colorful sugar cookies make the perfect addition to the cookie plates that we love to share with our friends.

What have you been baking?

  1. Those look really good! Can't go wrong with sugar cookies :) I love your snowman shirt too- it's cute!

  2. Those look so tasty! Some tacky sweaters can be so cute! :)

  3. That sweater is awesome! Hahaha!! And I love a good sugar cookie so I'll definitely be trying this recipe out!

  4. Cookie plates!!! If I were more of a baker, i would actually use that idea!!! So fabulous! Do y'all make cookies on Christmas Eve too (for Santa) or just use what y'all have baked already?

  5. I seriously suck at sugar cookies. I've tried so many. We made some this year and they sucked. They were fun to make and decorate but they had no taste. I actually made some a while ago, probably pre aria and I enjoyed those. So of course I cant find the recipe. SO I'm thinking I need to try these!!!
I love how your bows are like shoulder pads. Makes it amazing!
Thanks for linking up AND tacky sweater-ing it too!

  6. I don't own a tacky sweater either! Yours is awesome! And those cookies look so yum!

  7. Did you ever do a post about the license plates over your stove? I've never seen anyone do that before.

    1. I did sometime this past summer! We are car lovers and when the hubby suggested it, I had to go along!

  8. I LOVE your cookies and I love your sweater! You look so cute!! Thanks for linking up with us!
